This tropical – subtropical firebush is a favorite to the longwing butterflies and other species of butterflies and often see hummingbirds go after this nectar plant. The firebush loves full sun to partial shade likes regular feeding of fertlizer and we also miracle grow, well drained soil. We have seen them get to about 5' feet tall and they make a nice bush. They are often used in butterfly and hummingbird gardens makes a great accent plant,hedges,borders,and often used in containers. Birds will hunt down the seeds before you can gather them up. They bloom from early summer to the fall.

The firebush loves full sun 6 hours a day, however does tolerate partial shade, they do really good once established with low maintenance, we fertilize when needed. Likes sandy and well drained soil. Also does well as a container plant. Does well in zones 8a to 10b. Grows to about 5 feet high and is a good bloomer. The Firebush Hamelia patens attracts longwing butterflies on of it's favorite and also other butterflies and the hummingbirds love it also. The firebush does not take a freeze so bring in if you live in the north and protect from freezing temperatures if you live in the south.
